Monochrome Existence (Drawing & mixed media installation)

Description:

Monochrome Existence is a self-centered body of work. It examines my true emotions and thoughts that root in my personal encounters resulting from my displacement and migration, and that cause shifts in my identity, perception, self-esteem, and mindset.

The works abound in texts, spontaneous writings, scribbles, B & W imageries to render the existentiality of self and unfold my underlying subconscious emotions during the migration and acculturation process. The hardship of migration is that it turns one to a minority, bringing a sense of alienation and negligence that stem from the fear of being vulnerable to and paranoid of prejudice and discrimination. I tried to use art to communicate and reconnect myself, and help redefine my identity and ethnicity. Art becomes my own voice.
